Uncle Johnny’s all purpose BBQ sauce.

This sauce is a favorite amongst those who have tried it. It’s a sweet heat mustard base BBQ with a ton of flavor. 

My maternal grandfather the late John Robert Shepp would be considered a Renaissance Man for the time and era that he lived in. He had many skills, managed a garden in his backyard, grew his own grapes, and made his own wines.

Keep in mind he did all of these things while raising 6 children in the Brickyard neighborhood of East Germantown in Philadelphia Pa. 

My grandfather created this sauce he put on fish, chicken, beef, and pork especially during summer BBQ’s and family events. My grandfather was affectionately known to many as Uncle Johny throughout the neighborhood. People would always ask if he was making that sauce for whatever neighborhood event, birthday, holiday etc. 

“Uncle Johny, or Mr Shepp you need to bottle this sauce and sell it. Its amazin” was a common theme. The actual recipe went to the grave with my grandfather, but between my mother and her two younger siblings they knew all of the ingredients, and with my culinary knowledge I’ve been able to resurrect the sauce. I’m proud to be able to share my grandfather’s sauce outside of that small enclave of North Philadelphia and the family friends to the masses
